CalendarCast: Setup-Free, Privacy-Preserving, Localized Sharing of Appointment Data
summary
CalendarCast broadcasts a compact free/busy bitmask over Bluetooth Low Energy advertisements so nearby phones aggregate availability without prior setup and without revealing event details. A prototype on Android plus BTLE beacons runs continuously and updates blockers in real time. A 20-participant lab study finds task completion time falls dramatically — 66% reduction for sparse calendars and 84% reduction for dense calendars — demonstrating a usable, privacy-preserving local solution.
