EvalAssist is an open-source LLM-judge toolkit and UI that helps practitioners iteratively refine evaluation criteria across direct assessment and pairwise comparison modes, supports multiple LLM evaluators, and flags positional bias. In a study with n=15 participants completing 6 tasks (131 evaluations) users make criteria highly task-specific, favor direct assessment and run more evaluations, and report higher mental load for summarization tasks; the system logs model changes, criteria edits, and produced explanations to improve human–AI alignment.
