XFUSE is a FUSE-compatible framework that reduces user-space filesystem latency to the 3–4 microsecond range and demonstrates >8 GB/s throughput by adding an adaptive busy-wait before kernel event sleeps, sharding work into per-file-descriptor channels to cut kernel lock contention, and using timingfs to model device behavior. An online upgrade service transfers daemon state with about a two-second IO freeze in production. Evaluation shows consistent wins over legacy FUSE, especially on PMEM-like devices.
