TimescaleDB: Re-engineering PostgreSQL as a time-series database

Talkat Øredev 2018 · on Tuesday, 2018-11-20· [databases]
slides:none on file

An open-source Postgres extension that exposes full SQL while reworking storage and inserts into hyper tables/chunks with automatic chunk creation and time + space partitioning. Claims ingest of millions of rows per second and handling hundreds of billions of rows, up to ~20x faster than vanilla Postgres and orders-of-magnitude faster than some time-series DBs for complex group-by queries. Implements fast retention by dropping chunks, runtime chunk exclusion, planned scale-out and continuous aggregates for automated downsampling.
