Building a ray tracing engine with JS

Talkat RuhrJS 2018 · on Saturday, 2018-10-13· [creative-coding, webxr]
slides:none on file

A simple ray tracing engine in JavaScript is built that renders spheres, demonstrates physically correct reflections and color bleeding, and implements ray splitting for reflection and refraction. The renderer traces one ray per pixel, bounces rays until light or budget, and shows sample-count noise versus render time; performance makes real‑time ray tracing impractical in JS today. The talk compares rasterization tradeoffs and demos using a-frame plus Google Poly assets for browser VR.
