Workshop - Simplifying Code: Monster to Elegant in Less Than 5 steps

Workshopat RailsConf 2014 · 2014-04-22..04-25· [ruby-on-rails, developer-experience]
slides:none on file

Workshop shows four concrete refactorings with runnable Ruby/Rails exercises and Minitest checks: intentional revealing method, special case objects, replace method with method object, service objects. Steps are explicit — usually fewer than five edits — and each exercise lives in a repo branch with solution files. Patterns fix Fat Models, God Objects, long methods, nil NoMethodError and naming pain by extracting new classes/NullUser objects and one‑line delegations. Tests are required before changes and the extracted service/method objects are shown working against sample data.
