I'm in love with Mermaid
summary
Claims that diagrams-as-code works: mermaid-js embeds editable diagrams directly in a GitHub README, generates state/sequence/flow charts, supports participants, alternates, loops, notes, rectangles and theming, and renders Font Awesome icons. Demos show editing in an editor with live preview, syntax errors flag typos, PRs carry diagram changes, and Princeton library uses it for weekly swimlane documentation. The demos compile and render in GitHub and the examples prove maintainability and practical integration.
