Building HAL: Running Ruby with Your Voice

Talkat RubyConf 2016 · 2016-11-10..11-12· [developer-experience]

A voice-driven deployment pipeline actually gets built: an Alexa → IFTTT → Slack → Hubot → GitHub → Heroku flow that sometimes demos cleanly and sometimes times out, plus a browser-based HAL using the Web Speech API that both starts deploys and speaks back, and a local Marvin running pocketsphinx-ruby for keyword spotting. The Alexa skills kit enforces intent schemas but cannot push unsolicited completion status, wake-word matching is fragile, and live demo flakiness is the expected failure mode.
