Keynote: Real-time Communication for Today and Future Experiences
summary
Remote Presence is a cross‑app platform built over ~two years to make digital meetups feel like being together, already shipping Watch Together on Instagram and Messenger, Story Time on Portal, a unified 3D avatar update across Facebook Instagram Messenger and Quest, and Mosaic grid for multi‑party layouts. Engineering priorities are low‑latency capture and frame‑level sync for inward‑facing camera driven photoreal avatars, efficient multi‑channel spatial‑audio compression and device‑side execution, and adaptive immersion across VR, AR, phones and laptops to keep presence believable at scale.
