Argues that a proven equivalence — CALM Theorem — makes a program coordination-free exactly when it is monotonic, and shows formal tools used: Bloom/Dedalus (time-aware Datalog), relational transducer networks and lattice/CRDT algebra. Shows systems built: the Anna KVS (any-scale key-value store) and a cloudburst stateful FaaS; Anna runs without coordination and achieves the fastest contended-write throughput reported, while the theory (ultimate models, monotonicity checks) guides when Paxos-style coordination is actually required.
