Improving LiDAR QC processes using open source software
summary
LINZ publishes a Python CLI called upqc that implements a check-dataset command to harvest metadata (LAStools linfo, GDAL gdalinfo), run LINZ specification checks, and write a single GeoPackage with embedded QGIS symbology and a summary table. Parallelization via concurrent.futures and avoiding intermediate disk writes drops metadata checks on region datasets from days to about an hour for up to ~40,000 tiles. Additional commands build VRTs per 300 tiles and produce point density rasters using PDAL or LASTools, and the tools are open source on GitHub.
