dav1d is an open source AV1 decoder under BSD license that targets being small, fast, and cross‑platform. It is written in C plus hand‑written assembly, already running on iOS, Android and desktop with ~240 commits and ~20 contributors. Source size is about one fifth of libaom, binary ~one quarter and memory roughly half. C‑only shows ~16 fps vs libaom ~10 fps; with SIMD and threading developers project 80–90 fps when fully optimized; film‑grain and 12‑bit remain to finish.
