Quick OpenStack primer: project began 2010 and just hit its 25th release (Yoga) with 13,500 code changes, 680 contributors from 125 companies across 44 countries and an installed base of ~25 million cores. Core services for a minimal deploy are Keystone for identity, Nova and Glance for compute and images, Neutron for networking and Cinder (block) or Swift (object) for storage; Placement is required by Nova and Swift uses Swift 3-way replication for durability. Deployment choices include TripleO, Kolla Ansible, OpenStack-Ansible or DevStack/Packstack for POCs.
