Keynote: From Paper Cuts to Pull Requests: The Open Source Tapestry
summary
Story ties Oxford-style crowd contributions to India’s open source rise: grassroots meetups from the early ’90s (fost.in and others) produce real projects, friendships, careers and the practice of forks, issues, patches. A persistent Linux kernel meetup in Bangalore now anchors the community. Corporate support evolves into contribution: GitHub, LinkedIn and Microsoft engineers are active collaborators and 65% of Azure workloads run on Linux, showing the shift from outsider to major contributor.
