JavaScript for Artists

Talkat Heapcon 2019 · 2019-10-03..10-04· [creative-coding, javascript]

Argues JavaScript is a practical art platform because it runs in browser, server and hardware and gives immediate APIs: canvas/WebGL, Web Audio, media capture and Web MIDI video-triggered poems that actually work. Demos include a client-side face-api.js emotion detector (tries to sing when sad but struggles in the demo), Azure and Google Vision comparisons, a working Web MIDI controller that swaps videos and generative poetry, Espruino and Johnny-Five for hardware, and neural style transfers via ml5/magenta; many small projects are successful and code is shared online.
