Client Says Your Awesome Web App Works Slowly. Now What?

Talkat DevConf 2018 · 2018-09-26..09-28· [web-performance, frontend-architecture]

When clients complain about slowness start measuring: run PageSpeed, use devtools with simulate slow 3G and the performance tab to see what paints when, and run Gatling or simple loops for benchmarks (20 products: 20 ms, 1000 products: 6 s). Monitor with Prometheus and inspect JVM with JConsole. Fix front end with CDN (Cloudflare), Cloudinary for images, gzipping, dynamic import and webpack bundle analyzer to shrink big bundles, use skeleton screens or optimistic updates, paginate APIs, send minimal fields, add DB indexes and replace full-document writes with targeted updates.
