try! Swift Tokyo 2018

Developers from all over the world will gather for tips and tricks and the latest examples of development using Swift. The event will be held for three days from March 2 - 4, 2027, with the aim of sharing our Swift knowledge and skills and collaborating with each other!

Swift developers, iOS developers, systems and compiler engineers, mobile machine learning engineers, backend and server engineers, tooling and developer experience engineers, AR and interaction designers

SwiftNIO nonblocking I/O; Charles packet tunnel network extension; CoreML super resolution on-device; Swift AST meta-programming; Swift 5 ownership proposals; UIBezierPath visualization in playgrounds; SwiftGPIO on Raspberry Pi; Kotlin interoperability for Swift; Codable routing with Kitura; SIL and compiler internals; UIImageView versus Metal rendering; Type erasure and protocol abstractions

SwiftyPiKate Castellano18m
Raspberry Pi runs Ubuntu 16.04 and hosts a Vapor server while Swift code on the Pi is limited to Swift 3.1.1 (no ARM support for Swift 4.x), so the build uses…

Kotlin For Swift DevelopersEllen Shapiro21m
Kotlin shows concrete, Swift-friendly parity: val vs let for constants, identical optional syntax that reduces null crashes, and familiar generics plus…
Talk on
Writing Blockchain Clients in SwiftTamar Nachmany21m
Current iOS options require using Java, JavaScript, Go or generated Objective‑C bindings (examples: web3js, web3j), or embedding WebKit/React Native; there is…

Preparing for Swift 5 OwnershipToru Kuriyama05m
Explains concrete changes coming with Swift 5 ownership: the Ownership Manifesto proposals, a compiler prototype that already implements borrow semantics, the…
Talk on
Designing Experiences With Augmented RealityDavid Hoang20m
Shows a concrete prototype called Growth AR prototype that overlays pediatric growth charts in real space and demos measuring a child against an animal. Builds…
Talk on
The diamond of varianceVu Nhat Minh05m
Argues that Swift's generics map onto a four-point "diamond of variance" and walks through concrete Swift code snippets showing covariance, contravariance…

Getting to Know the Responder ChainSamuel Goodwin09m
Explains how Cocoa’s responder chain routes events from the first responder up through views, view controllers and the app delegate, how to insert a custom…
Talk on
Codable Routing with KituraPushkar Kulkarni21m
Kitura 2.0 takes JSON duties off handlers so routes accept and return Swift types directly, cutting boilerplate and leaving only business logic. Examples…
