about: Fediverse
summary
A decentralized social network based on ActivityPub that connects about 14 million accounts across roughly 20,000 community-run servers, mostly donation-funded, with moderators and filters handled at the server level. Instances offer microblogs, video, images and plugin support (WordPress federation). Timelines are chronological timelines, not algorithmic feeds, and users can migrate social graphs between instances, block entire servers, and run small nodes to avoid centralization while keeping interoperability across platforms.
