A lightweight gem called ActiveHash provides an ActiveRecord‑like base class that loads records from an in‑memory hash and an adapter ActiveFile that reads YAML XML or CSV so there are no seed data problems and reads avoid DB roundtrips. It claims tiny migration pain: IDs match so converting to real ActiveRecord is an easy migration to ActiveRecord. Downsides include global mutability from create and in‑memory state changing unexpectedly.
