Strengthening India's FOSS Community
summary
FOSS United registers in 2020 and runs three programs for individuals, communities, organizations, backing ~20 city chapters and 50+ student groups while funding outreach and infrastructure. A public directory Forklore surfaces 100–200 discovered maintainers; the maintainers program offers peer meetups, a maintainer pack (cloud credits, LLM subscriptions) and grants; fewer than 25 projects get direct support and ~10 reach sustainability. Education work embeds open source into curricula; the India FOSS conference spotlights 100 home-grown projects and the foundation distributes about 3 crores in grants.
