Next Generation Services at Indeed Using gRPC [I]

links:none on file
slides:none on file

Indeed runs over 160 Boxcar services and about 20 HTTP/REST services and migrates by adding a sidecar that speaks HTTP/2 and gRPC, translating calls into Boxcar and preserving existing proto2 payloads. Sidecar now generates clients for Java, Go, Python, PHP and Node and ships three gRPC client libraries (Go, Python, Node), a docker-based codegen tool, and a bridge so Boxcar code uses gRPC. HTTP/2 yields a single multiplexed TCP connection with sub-millisecond request overhead.
