Head in the Clouds with a Raspberry Pi

A Raspberry Pi with a cheap DVB‑T USB SDR dongle and a small USB stick is used to receive ADS‑B signals at 1090 MHz. A homemade ~10 cm dipole antenna improves range, software decodes ADS‑B messages, stores them in a time‑series database and plots live aircraft tracks, achieving reliable reception of dozens of planes per day (up to ~150 km) and feeding services like FlightRadar24/FlightAware.
