Designing Staging Environments

slides:none on file

Single shared staging becomes a single point of failure (one outage cost a team of ~200 developers three to four days of work), so replace it with per-change ephemeral environments that developers spin up on demand, each with fresh anonymized data and lightweight equivalents of production services (use Vercel or Docker Compose locally, mock expensive streams with LocalStack, avoid shared queues). Add Prometheus alerts, synthetic E2E runs, feature flags and a small SRE team to manage budgets and escalation for this to work.
