Ritz is an open source debugger suite that plugs into nREPL (and still supports Swank/SLIME) and ships as middleware plus nrepl.el extensions, a separate debugger server, and a small client codec. It requires a debugger JVM + a user JVM, and provides break on exception, frame eval to evaluate expressions in any stack frame and inspect locals, jump to source (Clojure or Java) plus bytecode disassembly. It already handles exception filtering and source-jar lookup; the nREPL integration is functional though the SLIME branch is more battle-tested.
