Making Data Visualizations More Accessible

slides:none on file

Example Android app draws a line chart (years 2015–2023) with three series (all applicants, engineering degrees, ICT) using Compose Canvas and builds an overlay called a highlighter that maps pixel points to density-independent positions. The highlighter adds per-year content descriptions via semantics, makes each year focusable, and updates highlighted X on focus changes so screen readers speak year + percentages and keyboard users see the bottom-right label. The approach works in the demo.
