summary

Claim: changing the physical and social workspace changes programmer happiness and productivity. Built Bendyworks downtown above a bar and across from a microbrewery, instituting pair programming in one big room, rotating music, book club, daily standups, and weekly game nights with microbrewery beers. Tools and perks include version control (moved off copying files), free bus passes and bike storage. A surprising metric: many people choose evenings at the office over going home. Outcome reported: retention and day‑to‑day joy increase and teams ship more consistently.
