Using python to create a prototype for web accessibility research
summary
Literature review of 50 papers finds 70% use automated tools and 48% rely on a single tool, so a prototype ensembles multiple accessibility evaluation tools is built in Python. It drives Wave, SortSite, axe, AccessMonitor, runs tools in parallel, aggregates outputs with pandas/matplotlib and produces an HTML report and wxPython GUI. Pilot evaluation uses two UK university sites and four accessibility experts; the ensemble surfaces more issues than single tools but produces false positives and still misses some human-only findings. Results appear in HCI International 2022.
