Karmada is a control plane for deploying and moving applications across Kubernetes clusters, running a Kubernetes-like API server and a Karmada Search cache (example: OpenSearch) to provide a global resource view. It implements two-level failover (application and cluster), a Flink-based checkpoint injection for stateful failover, and a cluster-by-cluster rollout. Recent releases add Migration Rollback (Zendesk, MoMo), Lightway Stateful Application failover (Bloomberg), priority scheduling and a federated resource quota (alpha). Community: ~700 contributors, ~37 public adopters; operator, Helm and karmadactl tools exist.
