" summary

Oracle states continued investment in the JVM with Java 7 GA plus multiple update releases (7u5/7u6) and a Mac/OpenJDK port shipped so releases land simultaneously; updates are now done in the open and alternate between small features and security fixes. Java 8 has early-access builds available for testing; active projects include Lambda and invokedynamic (JSR 292), Jigsaw moved toward Java 9, and Project Nashorn as a modern JavaScript-on-JVM effort. Hiring is ongoing.
