Deutsche Bahn runs a display platform across >5,000 stations serving ~30 million daily passengers and replaces many vendor-specific players with a single containerized backend of about 35 microservices. The stack uses Kubernetes + Docker deployed first on local i7 machines, then private hosts, now AWS; CI relies on GitLab CI with Kubernetes executor and autoscaling runners, and deployments use Helm charts and per-namespace environments. Cluster bootstrapping, zero-downtime upgrades and federation for failover remain active engineering work.
