Rules_lint: Formatting and Linting All Languages

Talkat BazelCon 2024 · 2024-10-14..10-15· [developer-experience, testing]

rules_lint v1.0 provides a single, repo-level formatting workflow (per-file, editor-consistent, run via pre-commit) and a separate linting workflow that runs across the Bazel graph using aspects, producing reports, patch files and exit codes. It wires common tools with rules_multi_tool and a multi-run shim (formator_multiun / multiun), avoids changing BUILD files, supports Ruff, shellcheck, clang‑tidy and more, and supplies a lint.sh helper to fetch and apply fixes or surface failures in CI.
