Creating API for Mobile App

Recommendation: use HTTP for mobile APIs (HLS and other services run over HTTP), prefer REST, gzip responses, and emit cache-control headers so proxies and devices cache correctly. Choose PaaS for early ops then migrate to self-hosted VMs — platform hosting can cost >€1,000/month versus much cheaper VMs. Version your API (clients may never update), return combined resources to minimize requests, use a reverse proxy for slow clients, implement delta endpoints, and accept that app-only security is infeasible (Siri-like sniffing can extract device serials and reuse certificates).
